Dr. Zhiqiang Wang’s research interests include Indigenous health and chronic disease epidemiology in different populations. He has focused on lifestyle, genetic and metabolic determinants of obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in different populations including Indigenous Australians.

Dr Wang has also analysed multiple large population-based survey datasets from Australia, the US, and China. In Indigenous health research, he has quantified the contributions of variables risk factors and biomarkers to the incidence risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease in Aboriginal people. His work has contributed to the assessment of CVD absolute risk in Indigenous people. He has also estimated lifetime risks of diabetes, coronary heart disease and end stage renal disease in Indigenous people.

Analysing the large US survey data, Dr Wang has assessed the impacts of obesity and diabetes on survival time in adults.
