Researcher biography

Emily completed her Honours degree in Psychology at the Queensland University of Technology. Since then, she worked for several years at the Queensland Centre for Mental Health Research on a wide array of topics, including mental health disclosure in the workplace and carers of people with mental illness. She has a keen interest in early intervention and prevention and her PhD research, in particular, investigates the association between self-injurious behaviour and psychotic experiences in otherwise healthy adolescents and young adults. The results of this PhD should help to identify a series of psychological, environmental and genetic markers of self-injurious behaviour, as well as markers of the transition from self-injurious thoughts to behaviours.
