Evaluating Nanopore-based bacterial variant calling with Presenter: Dr Michael Hall
Bio: Michael is a postdoctoral researcher at The Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity at the University of Melbourne, where he develops computational methods for microbial genome analysis. He specialises in pangenome graphs, nanopore sequencing data, and variant calling, with a focus on their applications to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and outbreak detection. Michael received his PhD from the University of Cambridge at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI), developing novel methods for bacterial variation and AMR prediction using genome graphs.

Accelerating pathogen detection from blood via metagenomic approaches with Dr Chitra Ravi
Bio: Dr Chitra Ravi is a postdoctoral research officer in the Merino Group and the Queensland Paediatric Infectious Diseases (QPID) Research Group at UQCCR. She completed her PhD on uropathogenic E.coli biofilms in 2023 at UQ and is now working on optimising methods for rapid bloodstream infection diagnostics via metagenomic approaches.
