This talk will introduce UQ Ventures and provide an overview of the opportunities available to UQCCR students and staff at all levels through the suite of Ventures programs for industry engagement and entrepreneurship. The Ventures team facilitates access to industry networks, tools and opportunities to develop an entrepreneurial mindset, gain transferable skills and bring your research ideas to life. Through UQ Ventures, entrepreneurs are supported at every stage of their journey, working alongside staff and alumni, and connecting with a wide range of global experts. Ventures startups have attracted over $ 90 million in Investment and grants already and over 200 startup companies have benefited from their ilab accelerator and incubator programs. Over 150 UQ students have also participated in the Ventures Startup Adventures program. There is support at every stage of your Ventures journey – from flexing your creative muscles to launching a startup or social enterprise.

About the speaker

Nimrod Klayman is the of Head of UQ Ventures. In this role he oversees all Ventures activities, including one of Australia’s most experienced accelerators, ilab. Since 2016, Mr Klayman has been the Director of Idea Hub, one of the University’s suite of entrepreneurial programs and initiatives under the Ventures brand that provide students, alumni and staff with the skills needed to think creatively and to build a startup or social enterprise. Mr Klayman has been a key contributor to the development and expansion of entrepreneurship activities at UQ throughout the past four-and-a-half years, including the Australia-first paid position of Chief Student Entrepreneur. With a background in business and psychology, he brings 20 years’ experience in senior roles within the telecommunication, manufacturing, technology and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industries. He has founded 11 startups in Australia and overseas, and he is keen to expand UQ’s engagement with the global industry.
