Yunan is a PhD candidate passionate about understanding the reasons behind infertility, ultimately contributing to helping families create life. Fertility is often taken for granted, and discussions on infertility and associated social problems (eg. mental health, gender inequality) are still not normalised. During Yunan’s undergraduate degree of Biomedical Science (Hons) at UQ, seeing the complexity of developmental biology made her appreciate the beauty of biology around reproduction. Now under the supervision of fertility specialist Prof. Hayden Homer at the UQ Centre for Clinical Research, Yunan uses time-lapse live imaging of mouse embryos to uncover mysteries during early embryonic divisions.

Outside research, she tries to communicate science to the public whenever possible through writing, presenting, and creative media. She is a freelance writer, medical translator, and rockclimber.
