Antibiotic resistance research – Paterson Group

Professor Paterson’s Lab studies the incidence, distribution and possible control of antibiotic resistant infections. The focus of this work is the translation of knowledge into prevention and treatment of these infections.

A key study is the MERINO Trial, which is currently the world’s largest randomised controlled trial on treatment for multi-resistant Gram negative bacteria.

The prospect of a world with limited treatment options for common infections is difficult to comprehend given the reassurance antibiotics have provided for more than half a century.
